Roberts03 ~ The Dromos, or First Court of the Temple of Karnak ~ Hand colored lithograph ~ In the background is of one of the great wonders of Karnak, the famed hypostyle hall of the Temple of Amun-Re. The French illustrations for Description de L'Egypte included their impression of this hall before it's destruction and can be seen in Volume III Plate 42. Here, the artist Roberts delivers a hauntingly beautiful view of this massive antiquity. His use of human forms in his illustrations provide an awareness for the size of pictured subjects.
