Volume IV Plate 42 - The Ptolemaic temple at Qaw el-Kebir (Antaiopolis). (Reconstruction) ~ Sited picturesquely by the shores of the Nile river, this artists impression of the temple as it might have once looked is quite tranquil with the tall palm trees and sailing Egyptian barques. This graphic record is the only image of this antiquity ever created because the temple was swept away by the waters of the Nile in 1821.
