Volume III Plate 22 - The Temple of Amun-Re ~ IIllustrated is a longitudinal-section of the Temple of Amun-Re with it's forecourt and the pylon to the Temple of Ramesses III. This open courtyard was originally outside the temple proper and includes edifices dating over a thousand year period. The large entrance pylon on the right of the illustration stood over 131 feet tall. The small pylon on the left is the entrance to the Temple of Ramesses III, originally it was designed as a miniature version of this king's mortuary temple at Medinet Habu. The six tall columns in the center are the remains of the Portico of Taharqa.
