This large map of Alaska was taken from The geography and geology of Alaska; a summary of existing knowledge, with a section on climate, and a topographic map and description thereof 1903, Brooks, A. H.; Abbe, Cleveland, Jr.; Goode, R. U. USGS Professional Paper: 45 http://pubs.usgs.gov/pp/0045/report.pdf It was also included as a supplement to the National Geographic Magazine, May 1904 R.U. (Richard Urquhart) Goode (1858 - 1903) became a topographer with the newly created U.S. Geological Survey in 1879 after surviving the failed attempt by the DeLesseps company to construct the Panama Canal. Goode was a surveyor on the project that took an estimated 25,000 lives. He eventually became the Chief Topographer for the USGS responsible for mapping large swaths of the western states and Alaska. Goode was a member of the Washington Academy of Sciences and during 1901-1903, he was the chairman of the Committee on Technical Meetings at the National Geographic Society.
