A lithograph with full hand colored wash Size: 13-1/2 inches X 17x inches Map Type: Atlas This is a good copy with vivid colors. General age toning throughout, water stain in leftand lower margin and border, not affecting main image. Some offsetting. Thomas, Cowperthwait & Company of Philadelphia purchased the copyright of the New Universal Atlas from Samuel Augustus Mitchell, Sr. in 1850. Taken from this atlas, this map is attractive and legible, and displays a growing network of rail roads, roads, and canals. The map also displays the topographical features of the state, including mountains and rivers. Ferry locations are also noted. Inset table of Distances. Inset "Profile of the Dismal Swamp Canal". Inset maps of the Gold Region (on the border with South Carolina).
