A lithograph with hand colored wash. Size: 13-1/2 inches X 17 inches; Scale: 1 inch = approximately XX miles. Map Type: Atlas Some staining in margins, age spot on bottom center. An excellent copy. Thomas, Cowperthwait & Company of Philadelphia purchased the copyright of the New Universal Atlas from Samuel Augustus Mitchell, Sr. in 1850. Taken from this atlas, this map is attractive and legible, and displays a growing network of rail roads, roads, and canals. The map also displays the topographical features of the state, including mountains, lakes, and rivers. Ferry locations are also noted. Inset profile of the Erie Canal. Inset tables of steam boat routes.
