Abraham Ortelius (1527-1598) was the "Father of Modern Cartography". He was the first to develop a compendium of maps to form a modern atlas. This map was taken from the famous and very popular atlas Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, or “Atlas of the Whole World" which was produced for over 40 years. This map of Burgundy appeared sporadically in Ortelius' atlases starting 1580. The map includes a number of famous wine regions.
