Abraham Ortelius (1527-1598) was the "Father of Modern Cartography". He was the first to develop a compendium of maps to form a modern atlas. This is his map of the Picardie Region in northern France. Shows the city of Amiens in the center. This map was taken from the famous and very popular atlas Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, or “Atlas of the Whole World" which was produced for over 40 years.
