An engraved map, with original outline color Size: 21-1/4 inches X 35-1/4 inches Map Type: Atlas This is a superior copy, with vivid hand-drawn outline colors. Published by Laurie and Whittle, this map is based on information by French geographer Jean Baptiste Bourguignon d'Anville. The map shows Middle America, the lands and islands bordering the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. Six outline colors are used to symbolize areas under the control the European colonial rivals of Spain, England, and France. Most of the mainland, including Florida, Mexico, Central America, and northern South America was outlined with yellow indicating Spanish control. The British possessions are outlined in red while France's possessions are outlined in in blue.
