This is an excellent copy, with strong colors.

Engraved by the famous J. H. Young. The information west of the Mississippi attributed to Major S.H. Long. This map first appeared in 1826 as a page in a traveling size of Finley's A New American Atlas. In 1831 Finley sold his map and atlas copyrights to S. A. Mitchell. A very scarce map in the pocket

map form.

This 1820s was a period of significant development in the eastern United States, with great growth of population, expansion of the transportation nexus, and political changes. Finley was very concerned to depict as much up-to-date detail as was possible and his maps reflect the eastern development.
