An engraved map, printed on moderately heavy rag paper. Size: 19 inches X 23 inches Map Type: Atlas General aging coloration throughout with a printers crease in center of image not affecting map lettering or other distinguishing cartography marks. This map was published in Carey's American Atlas and Carey's General Atlas in 1795 and 1796 respectively, the first atlas ever published in the United States. Samuel Lewis was a famous American geographer and cartographer in early American mapmaking. He worked for Mathew Carey, a prolific publisher in Philadelphia who had emigrated from Dublin in 1784.
