An engraved fold out map, with hand colored outlines and engraved geometric border. Size: 17 inches X 21.6 inches folding down to 5.1 inches x 3.1 inches. Map Type: Pocket The map is in supurb condition with very light age discoloration in some crease lines. Some crease lines expertly repaired with no loss of paper or image. The map is particularly clean and brightly colored. Mitchell's Traveller's Guide through The United States. Containing the Principal Cities Towns &c. Alphabetically Arranged; together with the Stage, Steam-boat, Canal and Railroad Routes, with Distances, in Miles, from Place to Place. Illustrated by an Accurate Map of the United States 78 pp. Dark brown leather with gilt decorated boards and titled in gilt on cover. Leather rubbed and chipped at head and tail of spine, but in very good condition. Map is copyrighted 1834, and dated in the cartouche 1837. Inset maps of 'Vicinity of Cincinnati,' 'Vicinity of Albany,' Vicinity of the Falls of Niagra,' 'Vicinity of New Orleans,' 'Vicinity of Boston,' 'Vicinity of New York,' 'Vicinity of Philadelphia,' 'Vicinity of Baltimore and Washington' and 'Vicinity of Charleston' all which have hand colored border outlines. The map shows as far northeast as parts of New Brunswick; Southeast to Florida just above Tampa Bay; Southwest to Texas around Galveston Bay; and Northwest through parts of Missouri Territory [Kansas and Nebraska]. Towns and county courthouses are displayed along with the distances between them and the connecting roads. The locations of Revolutionary War battle grounds, Indian tribe ranges, forts and military camps are all identified.
