This is the pocket map form of a map that was usually issued as a wall map. Two folding sheets, one with the U.S. map and the other with the 32 cities maps forming a border around tables of statistics from the 1840 census.

This map was part of a series of regularly updated "National Maps" issued by Mitchell. Originally issued as a wall map, towns and roads are clearly labeled.
