A lithograph with hand colored wash, including the distinctive green border formerly associated with Samuel Mitchell atlases. Size: Approximately 14.2 inches x 11.4 inches (36 cm x 29 cm) Map Type: Atlas Margins trimmed to near neat line, else a fine copy. Thomas, Cowperthwait & Company of Philadelphia purchased the copyright of the New Universal Atlas from Samuel Augustus Mitchell, Sr. in 1850. Taken from this atlas, this map is attractive and legible, and displays a growing network of rail roads and roads. The map also displays the topographical features of the state, including lakes and rivers. Ferry locations are also noted.
