A lithographed map, with hand colored wash Size: 13-1/2 inches X 17 inches Map Type: Atlas This is a good copy with vivid colors. General age toning throughout, water stain in left margin and border, not affecting main image. Some offsetting. Thomas, Cowperthwait & Company of Philadelphia purchased the copyright of the New Universal Atlas from Samuel Augustus Mitchell, Sr. in 1850. Taken from an 1852 atlas, this map is attractive and legible, and displays a growing network of rail roads, roads, and canals. Inset Steam Boat Route table and population table from the 1850 census.
