Age spotting, rust stain near Washington county, light water stain in upper and lower margin, slightly affecting image.

Thomas, Cowperthwait & Company of Philadelphia purchased the copyright of the New Universal Atlas from Samuel Augustus Mitchell, Sr. in 1850. Taken from this atlas, this map is attractive and legible, and displays a growing network of rail roads and roads, with inset table of Steam Boat routes from Natchez.

The map also displays the topographical features of the state, including lakes and rivers. Ferry locations are also noted.
