This early map of Asia was taken from the 1575 Latin edition of Ortelius' Theatrum Orbis Terrarum. It also offers a very distinct Northeast Passage. Abraham Ortelius (1527-1598) was the "Father of Modern Cartography". He was the first to develop a compendium of maps to form a modern atlas, Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, or “Atlas of the Whole World" which was produced for over 40 years.
