An engraved map with full color wash Size: 14 inches X 19 inches Map Type: Atlas This is a supurb copy, very clean with vivid colors. Framed in a 2 inch gold frame, outside dimensions are 25 inches X 31 inches. This map of the British Isles is based on Mercator's 1564 map of the same. A number of old world cities can be seen, including London, "Edenburg", and "Dublyn". This very attractive map includes a number of sailing ships and a coat of arms. Abraham Ortelius (1527-1598) was the "Father of Modern Cartography". He was the first to develop a compendium of maps to form a modern atlas, Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, or “Atlas of the Whole World" which was produced for over 40 years.
