This rare and very large map of Indian Territory shows all of the tribal reservation areas and provides treaty dates for their creation and sub leases. This beautiful map also shows the military reservations at Fort Sill and Fort Supply and topographical features. Each Indian reservation is labeled with the name of the tribal nation.
The word "Oklahoma" appears in the unassigned land area, perhaps the first time this word of Choctaw origin appears on a map. The Oklahoma area would become the site of the first land rush on April 22, 1889 and the "Oklahoma Territory" would be established in 1890.
