A lithographed map with hand colored wash. Size: 10-1/2 inches X 8-1/4 inches at the neat line. No scale provided Map Type: Atlas This is a superior copy, very clean with good color. Framed in a 1 inch black and gold frame with colored mat. Outside dimensions are 18 inches X 14-1/2 inches. This map illustrates the new state of Texas. It shows the southern border to be the Rio Grande River and it includes county names and seats. Three battle sites from the U.S. war with Mexico are identified, the Battle of Palo Alto, the Battle of Besaca de la Palma, both in southern Texas, and the Battle of Buena Vista near Saltillo in Mexico. Jesse Olney was a teacher and geographer. His Practical System of Modern Geography, printed for the first time in 1828, was a standard school reference for many decades.
