A folding lithographed map, with hand colored outlines.

Size: 20 inches x 25.25 inches; Scale: 1 inch = approximately 75 miles.

Map Type: Pocket

Folds into the original gilt and embossed roan boards. The map quite is clean and in good condition except for age discoloration along some crease lines.

The map was drawn and engraved by J. M. Atwood in New York. The maps ornate border has portraits of famous persons in American history as well as former presidents, state and national seals. Inset map of the latest configuration of the United States. State Capitals, Rail roads, Canals, and Roads are displayed as well as distances between points along the roads.

The map delineates all the states east of the Mississippi River as well as Louisiana, Arkansas, Iowa, Missouri, and portions further west.

One of the most beautiful pocket maps available in the mid 1800's and a gem in any collection.
