This is the second edition of Mitchell's Guide. The accompanying fold-out chart contains a complete index to the location of cities related to the map. It also provides the Steam-boat and canal routes, a Statististical table of the United States including the different classes and estimated numbers of inhabitants in 1830. The chart also includes the Heights of the Principal Mountains and Hills in the United States, Lengths of the Principal Rivers in the United States, Lengths of the Principal Raliroads (finished or in progress) in the United States, Lengths of the Principal Canals (finished or in progress), and a table showing the distances between major cities in the United States. This is a very good copy and an excellent example of this early chart and map.
The map shows as far northeast as parts of New Brunswick; Southeast to Florida just above Tampa Bay; Southwest to Texas around Galveston Bay; and Northwest through parts of Missouri Territory [Kansas and Nebraska].
Towns and county courthouses are displayed along with the distances between them and the connecting roads. The locations of Revolutionary War battle grounds, Indian tribe ranges, forts and military camps are all identified.
