A copper plate engraved map. Size: 9 3/4 inches X 12 1/2 inches to the neat line Map Type: Atlas This is an excellent, dark copy. Small stains in the margin not affecting image. Count Erik Dahlberg, a military man and engineer was born Stockholm, Sweden, and intensely studied mathematics, architecture, perspective and map drawing. He rose to the level of titled nobility due to his military abilities. In He was best known for compiling the impressive collection of drawings called Suecia Antiqua et Hodierna, or Ancient and Modern Sweden, from which this map is taken. The title of this map is translated "A map of the ancient and renowned town of Vittalia, Småland, county of Jönköping and the parish of Vetlanda and places in the vicinity witness to strange traces of its former glory even today near the village of Vetlanda, to whose name and faith the large town has descended into over time."
