James Stuart and Nicholas Revett met in Rome in 1742 and traveled to Naples to study Greeces antiquities and monuments. They completed their initial survey for The Antiquities of Athens, from which this map is taken, between 1751 and 1754. Their accurate measurements and drawings of the ruins of Athens were published many times. John Stuart's architectural endevors utilizing Greecian influence earned him the nickname "Athenian Stuart."
This map identifies the location and orientation of the Acropolis and the area immediately surrounding it in Athens.
