An engraved map with hand colored wash and outlines. Size: 17 1/4 inches X 11 1/4 inches Map Type: Atlas This is a superior and very clean copy, with vivid colors. Elegantly framed in a fileted mat placed in a 1" antique gold frame. Outside dimensions are 25 1/2 inches X 20 inches. A map of the French Department of Deaux Sevres taken from Atlas National Ilustre’ des 86 Departments et des Possessions De La France. The core map is surrounded by a very decorative border with illustrations of figures, farm scenes, animals, heraldry, and a wild boar. The area mapped is Partenay, and included are tables of administrative and territoral statistics. Victor Levasseur (1838-1854) was a French cartographer widely known for his distinctive decorative style. He produced numerous maps which are admired their artistic content.
