Map Type: Size: 20 inches X 14 inches This is a superior copy, with vivid color and a strong impression. Old color. This map is archivally framed. Abraham Ortelius (1527-1598) was the "Father of Modern Cartography". He was the first to develop a compendium of maps to form a modern atlas. This is his map of Mexico taken from the famous and very popular atlas Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, or “Atlas of the Whole World" which was produced for over 40 years. This exceptionally beautiful example of old Mexico shows many towns and cities, Including Mexico City and Guadalajara. Two elaborate cartouches and a sailing ship compliment the map.
