An engraved map, with hand colored wash Map Size: 12 1/4 inches X 15 1/4 inches Map Type: Atlas North America This map is from Alexander Buchon's Atlas Géographique des Deux Amériques. Buchon copied and translated Carey & Lea's famous 1822 atlas, A Complete Historical, Chronological, and Geographical American Atlas . . . into French. The maps for Buchon's atlas were re-engraved and printed on larger and heavier paper. In this fine map, Mexico is pictured at about the time it became an independant Republic. It encompasses the province of Texas, and California. Many of the locations of the frontier Spanish Presidios are identified.
