This stunning series of 12 gicleé facsimiles of the
birds of paradise is from John Gould and Richard Bowdler Sharpe’s
A Monograph of the Paradiseidae, London, 1891-1898.
These large-scale representations of exotic fauna are breathtaking
in scale and color. As Sacheverell Sitwell said in his marvelous
review of Sharpe in Fine Bird Books, “indeed,
the last of the great bird books.”

This most extraordinary collection of American birds is after
John Gould’s A Monograph of The Ramphastidæ,
or Family of Toucans, London, 1854. The blacks, reds,
yellows and blues of these birds enhance these striking depictions
of exotic fauna and are “in terms of aesthetics…fantastic”
(Sitwell, Fine Bird Books).
